Random old poem of the day!
On my recent trip back home I pulled out all my old poetry and decided I should maybe bring some of it into the digital world since I used to always write with pencil on paper.
So to keep me on task Im going to get more of these up here on the regular as my random old poem of the day.

Cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce soup
I bought a new food processor so I decided to christen it by creating a new recipe. I took one of my favourite side dishes and turned it into a delicious and creamy soup that really is nice and simple to make!
3 rashers short cut bacon
1 head of cauliflower (smallish)
1 head of broccoli (smallish)
1 white roughly diced onion
1 clove of garlic
500ml chicken stock
1 1/2  cups of milk
1/2 cup of cream (if not available use milk)
150g grated cheese
plain flour
butter
salt + cracked pepper
breadcrumbs
Fry the bacon in a saucepan until well cooked, set aside to dry then place in food processor and grind to small pieces.
Break cauliflower and broccoli into florets and place in saucepan, add onion, 1 tablespoon of butter and garlic and sweat for 3-4 minutes.
Add chicken stock and cook on medium heat until the cauliflower softens. Remove large pieces and place in food processor and blend. While that blends bring the heat up on the saucepan and boil the remaining stock to reduce slightly. Once the cauliflower and broccoli are well blended add the stock and blend till smooth.
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter on medium heat in a saucepan and add 1 1/2 tablespoons of plain flour. Mix to a smooth paste and cook for 2 minutes. Slowly add the milk stirring constantly until the sauce starts to thicken then reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes. Stir through cream till well mixed and add grated cheese continuing to stir over the low heat until the cheese melts.
Add the cheese sauce to the food processor, add salt and pepper to taste and blend till smooth. Pour the finished soup back into the saucepan to bring the heat back up then serve in flat bowls sprinkled with breadcrumbs.
